Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 6

In Greene County district court Jason Dean Smits, 42, of Jefferson was sentenced Sept. 4 to 28 days in jail with credit for time served after he changed his play to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. No court costs were entered. Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Breanna Dawn Mahers, 22, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Joshua David Paddock, 35, of Des Moines, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense; Devin William Holm Morales, 28, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Linda Kay Cleary, 54, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; Merissa Shawnay Olson, 34, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia; Martin Lea Palmer, 55, of Jamaica, operating while intoxicated; and Jeremy Ernest Andrews, 36, of Jefferson, driving while license barred- habitual offender. Trial dates were set for Nov. 5 in every case.

Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Sept. 6 as follows: Joshuah Jay Blumberg, 28, of Grand Junction, domestic abuse assault- second offense and child endangerment; Abby Nichole Farrell, 21, of Carroll, OWI; and Shane Mitchell Krueger, 45, of Ames, driving while license revoked.
